Who we are

Good Design Lab is a design education programme based in London. We run studio sessions led by practising designers, and we select participants through an application process.

When this policy says "we", "us", or "our", it means Good Design Lab. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this document.

If you have questions about this policy or about how we handle your data, email us at hello@gooddesignlab.co.

What we collect and why

We only collect information that is directly relevant to running the programme and communicating with people who have expressed interest in it.

What Why
Name and email address To process your application and communicate the outcome. If accepted, to send you programme information.
Application responses — your background, statement, and portfolio link To review your application and decide whether to offer you a place. These are read by the Good Design Lab team and, in some cases, the guest expert for that edition.
Email correspondence To respond to your questions and manage your participation in the programme.

We do not collect any data automatically when you visit this website. There are no tracking scripts, no analytics cookies, and no third-party advertising on gooddesignlab.co. The site loads no external resources except the fonts used in its design.

How we store your data

Emails sent to hello@gooddesignlab.co are forwarded to a private email account and are not stored on any third-party server beyond standard email infrastructure.

Application responses are stored securely and accessed only by the people who need to review them. We do not sell, share, or rent your personal information to anyone outside the programme.

If you apply and are not accepted, we keep your application for a reasonable period in case we have a place available in a future edition. If you would rather we delete it, just ask — see the section below on your rights.

Our legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we process your personal data on the basis of legitimate interests — specifically, the legitimate interest of running an application-based design programme and communicating with people who have actively engaged with it.

Where you have applied or expressed interest, processing your data is also necessary to take steps at your request before potentially entering into an agreement with you.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.

How long we keep your data

We keep your data for as long as it is relevant to the programme. In practice:

If you apply and are accepted: we keep your information for the duration of the programme and for up to 12 months afterwards — in case questions arise about your participation.

If you apply and are not accepted: we keep your application for up to 12 months in case a place becomes available or a future edition opens. After that, it is deleted.

Email enquiries: retained for as long as the conversation is relevant, then deleted as part of routine inbox management.

If you ask us to delete your data at any point, we will do so within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the following rights. To exercise any of them, email hello@gooddesignlab.co.

Access You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction You can ask us to correct any inaccurate information we hold.
Deletion You can ask us to delete your personal data. We will do so within 30 days, unless we have a legal obligation to retain it.
Restriction You can ask us to stop processing your data while a dispute is resolved.
Portability You can ask for your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Objection You can object to our processing of your data based on legitimate interests. We will stop unless we have a compelling reason to continue.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle a request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to how we handle your data, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. We will not reduce your rights without giving you clear notice first.
